Dottie was my Stepmother for over half a century, and a better mother you will never find. Thinking back now, I don't ever recall a time she referred to me as her stepson. It was always, "this is Stephen, one of my eight children". I always felt loved, and a part of the family. Her children have always made me feel like family as well. For a number of years she brought my father, Barry S. Krum, happiness. No matter when a loved one passes, even if expected, it is always premature. Recently, when learning of her fall and declining health, I had planned to make a quick trip after the holidays to visit, for what I anticipated to be the last time. I am disappointed I did not make my trip sooner. I was addressing a special Christmas card for her, and getting it in the mail this week. About three years ago, I had a very long commute and would often call her during my drive. She always had time for me and encouraging words. I have always loved her and will never forget her.
Mom, I love you. Thank you for being there for me. I will see you again one day.
Stephen Krum, Dallas, TX
