I joined the SJ Pops in 2013. I had very limited experience and found the pops music to be quite a challenge. No matter where Art and I sat in relation to one another at rehearsals and performances and no matter how poorly I played I could always count on Art to offer words of encouragement. He just had an innate way of knowing exactly what to say. I can honestly say that without those kind, encouraging words I would not have stuck with the pops. My story is not at all unique either. I have heard others expressing identical sentiments. Sitting next to Art was always a treat as well. He played with such verve and confidence and no rhythm was ever too tricky for him. We have missed him a great deal. I pray that his memory will be a blessing to your family.
